CETT and PLAN International Join Forces in Honduras

CETT empowers teachers of Grades 1, 2, and 3 by training them in the most effective methods for teaching reading and writing. It opens up new possibilities for teachers and transforms children’s lives. Teachers are often surprised by how much their children can learn and children discover that reading and learning can be fun. They stay in school and want to learn more.

Drawing on proven, international best practices for teaching literacy, CETT has trained over 15,000 teachers in Latin America and the Caribbean. Nearly 500,000 poor and disadvantaged children have benefited from this program. Because these children are often the subject of low expectations, even CETT teachers have been surprised at how much their students can achieve:

"We are committed to making education a centerpiece of our economic agenda – because learning and literacy are the foundations for development and democracy."

– President George W. Bush, 2001 Summit of the Americas
